As part of the Investing in America agenda, the Biden-Harris Administration has plans to expand the nation’s electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure and increase EV incentives, which in turn will make clean transportation more accessible to the public. By 2030, the administration’s goal is to have a network of 500,000 public EV charging stations, reduce national greenhouse gas emissions by 50-52%, and have at least 50% of all new vehicle sales be electric cars.
At least 35 state plans, including California, have been approved to expand and improve EV charging infrastructure across 53,000 miles of highways. So, what does this mean for you as a Orange County driver? Learn more with the team at Mercedes-Benz of Laguna Niguel below.
The EV Acceleration Challenge seeks to speed up the country’s transition to electric vehicles and provide clean, safe, and affordable transportation for all its citizens. The National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Formula Program will fund $5 billion for the next five years to meet these goals.
Here’s a general overview of what the plan entails and how Aliso Viejo drivers like you can benefit from it:
With access to over $900 million of the funds provided by the NEVI Formula Program, at least 35 states across America will be moving forward to install EV charging stations along their highways. By doing so, EV charging stations will be more accessible in low-income and underserved communities, which will also help improve air quality.
The Biden-Harris Administration will also add and expand tax credits for purchases of new and pre-owned EVs. As part of their plan for EV fleet expansion, incentives will also be available for electrifying school buses and other heavy-duty vehicles. Companies like Uber are also joining the movement. By the end of 2023, Uber plans to reach 400 million EV miles driven on its U.S. platform.
Currently, there are more than three million EVs on the road and over 135,000 public charging stations across the country. The benefits of electric vehicles only seem to get better with time, and we at Mercedes-Benz of Laguna Niguel can’t wait to see what the future holds.
