2027 Mercedes-AMG® GLS 63 Announced

Mercedes-AMG® has announced the new 2027 Mercedes-AMG® GLS 63, an extensively updated performance SUV designed to combine hallmark AMG® V8 power, advanced technology, confident versatility, and first-class refinement. Arriving at U.S. retailers in fall 2026, the new Mercedes-AMG® GLS 63 brings enhanced performance engineering, a redesigned AMG® front end, advanced ride systems, and expanded personalization options.

For drivers near Laguna Niguel, Dana Point, San Clemente, and Aliso Viejo, the 2027 Mercedes-AMG® GLS 63 represents a commanding new expression of AMG® performance and Mercedes-Benz luxury.

Updated AMG® 4.0-Liter V8 Biturbo Engine

At the center of the 2027 Mercedes-AMG® GLS 63 is the updated AMG® M177 EVO engine. This AMG® 4.0-liter V8 biturbo engine produces 603 horsepower and 627 lb-ft of torque, with peak torque available from 2,500 to 4,500 rpm. The engine has been comprehensively revised with a new flat-plane crankshaft, modified intake camshaft, optimized fuel injection system, updated intake and exhaust ports, and advanced exhaust aftertreatment.

The M177 EVO engine is built in Affalterbach according to the AMG® “One man, one engine” philosophy. Its engineering updates are designed to sharpen response, support efficient power delivery, and preserve the unmistakable character of a high-performance AMG® V8 SUV.

ISG 2.0 Mild-Hybrid Technology

The 2027 Mercedes-AMG® GLS 63 adds a new generation Integrated Starter Generator, known as ISG 2.0, together with an additional 48-volt electrical system. ISG 2.0 supports power delivery at lower engine speeds with up to 23 horsepower and 151 lb-ft of torque, helping the Mercedes-AMG® GLS 63 deliver highly responsive acceleration.

This mild-hybrid system also supports energy recuperation during deceleration and smooth operation of the start/stop function. With its updated AMG® V8 and ISG 2.0 support, the 2027 Mercedes-AMG® GLS 63 accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 3.9 seconds and reaches an electronically limited top speed of 174 mph.

New AMG® Performance Exhaust System

The new Mercedes-AMG® GLS 63 features a newly developed AMG® Performance exhaust system that contributes to the signature AMG® V8 sound. Standard exhaust valve control allows the driver to adjust the sound profile based on the selected AMG® DYNAMIC SELECT drive program or through the central control panel on the center console.

Comfort mode provides a more subtle exhaust note, while Sport+ delivers a more dynamic AMG® sound experience. This range helps the Mercedes-AMG® GLS 63 feel composed during daily driving and highly expressive during spirited moments.

Redesigned AMG® Exterior

The 2027 Mercedes-AMG® GLS 63 receives a completely redesigned front end that gives the SUV even greater visual presence. Key exterior details include the AMG®-specific radiator grille, enlarged air intakes for cooling the powerful V8 engine, and LED headlamps with an exclusive AMG® light signature.

At the rear, striking twin tailpipes from the AMG® Performance exhaust system and a characteristic diffuser design emphasize the vehicle’s performance-focused identity. The result is a confident exterior that reflects the capability and prestige of the Mercedes-AMG® GLS 63.

AMG® RIDE CONTROL+ Air Suspension

Standard AMG® RIDE CONTROL+ air suspension with adaptive damping continuously adapts to the driving situation. AMG®-specific elastokinematics and continuously variable damping control allow the Mercedes-AMG® GLS 63 to deliver a firm Sport setting for dynamic driving and a Comfort setting for more compliant ride quality.

In the Trail drive program, the ride height increases by 2.2 inches for off-road driving, while damping control, AMG® ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL, and AMG® Performance 4MATIC®+ all-wheel drive are adapted to the situation. The system also maintains a constant ride height regardless of payload and can lower the vehicle in Sport, Sport+, and Comfort settings to support aerodynamics and stability.

AMG® ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL

The 2027 Mercedes-AMG® GLS 63 is equipped with AMG® ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL active roll stabilization. This advanced system significantly reduces body roll in corners and contributes to stable, precise handling.

Active electromechanical stabilizers with AMG®-specific control are fitted on both axles. Sensors analyze the driving situation and road surface up to 1,000 times per second, helping compensate for body movement with high precision. This technology also benefits off-road driving by supporting confident control over uneven surfaces.

AMG® Performance 4MATIC®+ and AMG® Locking Rear Differential

AMG® Performance 4MATIC®+ all-wheel drive with fully variable torque distribution helps the 2027 Mercedes-AMG® GLS 63 deliver traction and confidence in a wide range of driving conditions. The front and rear driveshafts are specially engineered for the high torque output of the M177 EVO engine.

The standard electronically controlled AMG® locking rear differential further enhances agility by distributing power between the rear wheels when cornering. The system adapts to the driving situation and selected ESP® mode, helping improve traction, stability, acceleration, braking, and dynamic handling.

AMG® DYNAMIC SELECT Drive Programs

The AMG® DYNAMIC SELECT drive programs in the 2027 Mercedes-AMG® GLS 63 allow the driver to tailor vehicle behavior at the touch of a button. Comfort focuses on smooth gear changes and relaxed steering, while Sport and Sport+ increase dynamic response through quicker gear changes, firmer suspension tuning, more direct throttle response, and a more expressive AMG® sound profile.

Trail and Slippery modes are engineered for off-road capability and traction on challenging surfaces, including icy or snow-covered roads. Individual mode allows the driver to adjust key vehicle parameters according to personal preference.

The latest AMG® Performance steering wheel is available in Nappa leather, microfiber, Nappa leather with microfiber, or microfiber with carbon fiber. Standard AMG® DRIVE UNIT steering wheel buttons provide direct access to key performance functions.

Interior upholstery options include Black, Macchiato Beige, Beech Brown, and Red Pepper Nappa leather, along with MANUFAKTUR Yacht Blue, Tartufo Brown, and Carmine Red Nappa leather. The new MB.OS operating system brings high-resolution digital displays to the 2027 Mercedes-AMG® GLS 63. AMG®-specific display content provides detailed performance information, including torque distribution, G-forces, and engine parameters.
